Group CEO and Co-Founder of GreyOrange, Samay Kohli spoke at the EmTech Asia conference in Singapore on the Future of Supply Chain : Robotics and Automation. EmTech is the annual global emerging technologies conference hosted by MIT Technology Review, a unique event which runs in the United States, Europe, South America, India, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The supply chain accounts for 10-15% of national GDPs for many economies and it is flush with inefficiencies. Managing a modern supply chain with proliferating SKUs and channels, unpredictable supply stresses and demands at a minimum cost, within a fixed timeline and with expectations of zero errors, or high accuracy, make automation the only choice.
Samay highlighted the increasing complexities in the today’s supply chain due to the growth in e-commerce, omnichannel fulfilment, express delivery options, manpower issues and SKU proliferation among others. In explaining the evolution of automation, he highlighted how warehouses moved from rigid automation to intelligent automation to achieve scalability and flexibility in light of increasing complexities.
He concluded with examples of useful robots and the importance of Artificial Intelligence and the role the Connected Supply Chain will bring to Industry 4.0. The future vision of a swarm of connected hardware, evolving in dexterity and autonomy, governed by a self-learning software layer drawing intelligence from an extended supply and demand ecosystem, is coming true as we speak.
